To create a local government that is:
Accountable and Accessible | Collaborative | Transparent (ACT)

Accountable & Accessible

I will work to ensure that our local government is responsive to the people and businesses in Allen County. Governing bodies should be readily available and accountable to the people they serve to ensure they act in the community’s best interest, not their own.

Focusing on the ACT model will decrease taxpayer burden while increasing wages, develop more efficient ways of doing business, and improve overall quality of life in Allen County.

Key Issues

Fire and EMS
  • Fire Districts need to be more coordinated but have every opportunity to determine their future and direction while ensuring the best value for taxpayers.

  • Districts must identify gaps in fire and EMS service and ensure that no part of our county is under-served or served with too long of a response time.

Jail
  • The cost of the proposed jail vastly exceeds similar facilities in similar counties. We must keep the cost of this facility under $317 million while finding ways to reduce further costs related to the facility and equipment.

  • Ensure confinement officers have a safe work environment and reduce injuries through technology.

  • Identify ways to use outside providers for mental health services our jail is not equipped to provide.

Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement
  • Ensure that our police officers have fair and equitable compensation and equipment that keeps them safe.

  • Work closely with the Allen County Judges to encourage and augment grant-funded programs and alternative sentencing options.

Transportation
  • Establish regular meetings between the County Highway Department, NIRCC (Northeast Indiana Coordinating Council), INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation), Fort Wayne City Utilities, Huntertown Utilities, and all other local sewer and water utilities to ensure that new subdivisions have adequate county roads that are wide, safe, and ready for new-resident traffic BEFORE subdivisions are completed.

  • Create “heavy-load routes” that provide industry direct highway access for heavy steel and manufactured loads on par with state and federal highway limits.

  • Work with railroads to support local intermodal facilities.

  • Support US 30 and State Road 1 limited access routes.

  • Aggressively pursue additional federal funding for Fort Wayne International Airport.

Economic Development
  • Work with the State of Indiana, Norfolk Southern, and the Department of Defense to move all assets of the 122nd to the West side of the railroad, paving the way for base growth and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

  • Create a shovel-ready economic development mega-site with over 1500 acres for the next Scout plant so we never lose a transformational opportunity again.

  • Work with economic development entities to make deals for business expansion or new business locations that benefit the taxpayer and the business.

Allen County Government Facilities
  • Reduce the number of County-owned buildings and facilities to cut costs and reduce liability.

  • Consolidate the Department of Health and Community Corrections at existing facilities purchased at the site of the new jail.

  • Review all real estate transactions to ensure that the best deal is gained for Allen County taxpayers.
